Santee, CA–San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a transient found lying face down on a dirt trail in Santee early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Deputies received a radio call, just after 2 a.m., to assist the Santee Fire Department with medical aid at the end of Chubb Lane, west of North Magnolia Avenue. When deputies arrived on the scene, they located a 66-year-old man face down on a dirt trail near a transient encampment. Paramedics arrived and provided CPR on the man. Despite life-saving measures, the man died at the scene. 

Deputies said the man appeared to have trauma to his upper torso, but it is unknown if the trauma played a factor in his death. 

The circumstances of his death are still under investigation. 

The identity of the victim is being withheld until his family can be located and notified.
