SAN DIEGO–Construction crews will close the westbound State Route 78 (SR-78) on-ramp from Woodland Parkway for approximately 82 hours beginning Thursday at 7 p.m.

The ramp is expected to open before the morning commute on July 2.

Crews will be temporarily relocating barriers, removing structural sections of the ramp, and replacing the pavement that will tie in a portion of the ramp into the new mile-long auxiliary lane, between Woodland Parkway and Twin Oaks Valley Road.

Detour signs will direct motorists to use either Rancheros Drive or East Mission Road to access westbound SR-78.

From Woodland Parkway: Take Rancheros Drive west to San Marcos Boulevard, left onto San Marcos Boulevard, left on Twin Oaks Valley Road to the westbound SR-78 on-ramp.

When on East Mission Road: Motorists continue to head eastbound on East Mission Road to Nordahl Road, left on Nordahl Road to the westbound SR-78 on-ramp.

At the completion of the weekend closure, motorists will encounter several changes to the roadway, location of barriers and temporary lane markings. Caltrans reminds drivers to “Be Work Zone Alert” by avoiding distracted driving, paying constant attention to traffic, and slowing down when approaching road closures and through any highway construction zone.

Caltrans District 11 serves one of the most geographically and culturally diverse areas in the country and includes San Diego and Imperial counties.
