El Cajon, CA–The El Cajon Police Department announced Thursday the arrest of a suspect accused of fatally shooting one person, and injuring two others at a dental office in East County.
According to El Cajon police, the suspect, Mohammad Abdulkareem was located and taken into custody Thursday evening. No further detail was released.
The shooting incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. at Smile Plus Dentistry and Orthodontics, located at 480 North Magnolia Avenue, according to Captain Rob Ransweiler at a news conference.
When officers arrived at the scene, they evacuated the victims and immediately administered CPR. Despite life-saving efforts, one victim died at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released, The other two victims, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s, were transported to a local hospital and are currently in stable condition.
According to El Cajon police, Abdulkareem of El Cajon was last seen fleeing the scene in a white U-Haul pickup truck bearing Arizona license plate number AM14894, traveling northbound on North Mollison Avenue. The police have described him as “armed and dangerous.”
Authorities have indicated that a handgun was used in the shooting and that there were other individuals present at the dental office during the incident, though their safety was not compromised.
The motive of the shooting is under investigation.
