Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal stabbing of Cal Fire captain in Ramona

By SDCN Staff

Ramona, CA–The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation of the fatal stabbing of a Cal Fire captain at her home in East County on February 17.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report, shortly before 9 p.m., of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in the 20200 block of Rancho Villa Road in Ramona.

When they arrived at the residence, they discovered 49-year-old Rebecca Marodi inside her home, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Deputies administered life-saving measures until Cal Fire paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, Marodi succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff’s homicide detectives are working to identify and locate a suspect and suggest the victim may have known the attacker. Authorities are treating the case as a possible domestic violence incident, though the exact motive and circumstances remain under investigation.

Officials urge anyone with information about the case to contact the Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330 or, after hours, at (858) 868-3200. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
