Lemon Grove, CA–Sheriff’s deputies will conduct a DUI checkpoint on March 16 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at an undisclosed location within Lemon Grove.
Checkpoints are placed based on data indicating areas with high rates of impaired-driving crashes, aiming to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the roads.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that impairment isn’t limited to alcohol. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and marijuana can impair driving. While marijuana use is legal for medicinal and recreational purposes, driving under its influence remains illegal.
To avoid a DUI, use a designated sober driver, ride-share, taxi, or public transportation, avoid walking while impaired, have a sober friend accompany you, or wait for a safe ride. If hosting a party, offer non-alcoholic beverages and monitor guests’ transportation plans.
A first-time DUI offense can result in an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license. This safety initiative is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
