Police chase in East County ends with grim discovery in car trunk

By Gina Yarbrough

El Cajon, CA–A high-speed pursuit through East County on Tuesday led to a grim discovery—a woman’s body found in the trunk of a car, authorities said.

The incident began just before 5 p.m. when a caller reported a possible kidnapping involving a black Hyundai Sonata. El Cajon police quickly located the vehicle near Madison and Magnolia Avenues.

When officers attempted to pull the car over, the driver sped away, initiating a chase that wound through El Cajon and Spring Valley before circling back through Interstate 8. The pursuit ended when the suspect exited the freeway and crashed into two other vehicles in the 500 block of North Mollison Avenue.

Police apprehended the driver, an adult male, using a Taser. Upon searching the vehicle, officers made a grim discovery—the body of an adult female hidden in the trunk.

Authorities have not yet released details about the victim or possible motives, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The drivers of the other involved vehicles were unharmed.

Anyone with information is urged to contact El Cajon Police at (619) 579-3311 or submit tips anonymously at sdcrimestoppers.org.
