Motorcyclist killed in El Cajon crash; driver arrested for DUI

By Gina Yarbrough

El Cajon, CA–A motorcyclist tragically lost his life after colliding with another vehicle on Sunday in El Cajon, according to authorities.

El Cajon Police officers and paramedics responded to a collision on the 1200 block of East Main Street. A 2004 gold Chevrolet Suburban collided with a motorcycle carrying two occupants.

When officers arrived, they found the 41-year-old male motorcyclist and his juvenile female passenger lying in the roadway. Despite efforts by paramedics, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The female passenger was transported to Children’s Hospital, where she is expected to survive. Authorities are withholding their names pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Suburban was traveling eastbound on East Main Street and entered the turn lane to head north on Shady Lane. As the vehicle turned, it crossed into the path of the westbound motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to collide with the Suburban’s front passenger door.

The 37-year-old woman driving the Suburban, along with her passenger, remained at the scene. Investigators determined she was under the influence of a stimulant at the time of the crash. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the Las Colinas Detention Facility.

El Cajon Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact them at (619) 579-3311.
