San Diego, CA–Firefighters are battling to contain a vegetation fire that broke out Thursday afternoon in the Otay Wilderness Area near Otay Mountain Truck Trail, Cal Fire San Diego reports.
The wildfire, dubbed the Border 2 Fire, has already burned 600 acres and remains 0% contained. It ignited around 2:30 p.m. and is spreading at a moderate pace. No evacuations have been ordered, and, as reported by Alert San Diego, there are currently no structures at risk.
More than 200 firefighters are on the scene, utilizing a combination of ground crews, helicopters, air tankers, and multiple engines to combat the blaze.
As a safety precaution, Alta Road has been closed to traffic south of Otay Mesa Road. Authorities, including the San Diego Sheriff’s Office, are urging the public to avoid the area until further notice.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
