SPRING VALLEY–The Medical Examiner’s Office concluded the autopsy of a man who died from a head injury on March 13 in Spring Valley.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old Manuel Arrechea Chavira, of Spring Valley died from a blunt force injury of the head. The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death as a homicide.

On March 13, at about 6:20 p.m., San Miguel Fire Department responded to a medical aid at 400 Felicita Avenue in Spring Valley for a man who allegedly fell and struck his head. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. 

Sheriff’s deputies at the Rancho San Diego Station learned the victim was possibly involved in a fight. On March 14, at 6:24 p.m., the victim was pronounced dead. 

Sheriff’s Homicide detectives continued their investigation and identified Alex Anthony Martinez, a 31-year-old resident of Spring Valley, as the suspect in the murder of Chavira. Martinez was already in custody at the San Diego Central Jail for unrelated charges. Martinez was rebooked for one count of murder and one count of gang enhancement.
