Alpine, CA–An elementary school in Alpine was briefly locked down Friday afternoon after reports of a gunshot being fired near the campus. 

It happened just after 10 a.m. near Shadow Hills Elementary School located in the 8700 block of Harbison Canyon Road. Deputies from the Alpine Sheriff’s Station responded to the school after a single gunshot was reportedly heard in the area of the campus. Out of an abundance of caution, school staff immediately initiated a campus-wide lockdown.

Deputies searched Shadow Hills Elementary, as well as the adjacent Creekside Early Learning Center. They were unable to locate any evidence of a shooting. The lockdown was lifted just before 11 a.m. No children, teachers, or staff were hurt.
