Oceanside, CA–A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle after crossing State Route 76 illegally in Oceanside Sunday evening, authorities said.
The Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a major injury collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian around 6:23 p.m. near the intersection of SR-76 and Canyon Drive.
The collision occurred when a white Toyota Prius heading westbound on the highway collided with a pedestrian who was crossing the highway illegally from south to north about 100 yards east of the intersection.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Oceanside Police, the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement. He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted the investigation.
