At approximately 8:45 p.m., the Oceanside Police Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian at 4147 Oceanside Blvd. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive female lying in the eastbound lanes. Life saving measures were immediately performed by the officers on scene followed by Oceanside paramedics. The unidentified female was transported to the hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Based on physical evidence at the scene, and the statement of the driver involved, it appears that the female was crossing Oceanside Blvd. legally south to north at a break in the road. The 22-year-old male driver was traveling eastbound on Oceanside Blvd. when he noticed the pedestrian and tried to swerve to avoid the collision. Following the collision, the driver remained on scene and was cooperative with police. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in this collision however, distracted driving was a possible factor. The pedestrian has not been identified at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
