Vista, CA–The City of Vista joined community partners on August 18 to mark the official opening of VisTAY House, a transitional housing facility designed to support young adults at risk of homelessness.
The ribbon-cutting event drew city leaders, community stakeholders, and supporters to celebrate the milestone.
Vista Mayor John Franklin said the opening reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to addressing youth homelessness.
“By partnering with dedicated organizations like Urban Street Angels, we’re not just providing shelter, we’re building brighter futures for our community’s most vulnerable young people,” Franklin said.
The facility, located at 727 Ascot Drive, will provide housing and services for individuals ages 18 to 25 facing challenges such as aging out of foster care, mental health issues, substance use disorders, and prior involvement with the justice system.
The City of Vista purchased and repurposed the property to create the housing program, which offers both semi-congregate and non-congregate rooms, case management, access to healthcare, connections to trade schools, scholarship opportunities, and life skills coaching. Officials said the program is aimed at fostering long-term stability and independence.
Urban Street Angels, a nonprofit that has worked in the San Diego region for more than a decade, will operate the facility. The group has provided housing, healthcare, and educational and employment resources to thousands of young people.
The project was supported through funding and partnerships with the Lucky Duck Foundation, the County of San Diego, Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, and other contributors.
