Encinitas, CA–Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 66-year-old female pedestrian in Encinitas on Sunday evening.
Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station responded to a collision at 6:52 p.m. in the 900 block of North Coast Highway 101.
According to initial reports, a light-colored sport utility vehicle struck the pedestrian in the roadway before fleeing the scene. Paramedics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
Officials urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has video footage of the incident to come forward. Witnesses can contact the Sheriff’s Department at (858) 565-5200.
