Oceanside, CA–A 20-year-old man was hospitalized Monday evening after suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in downtown Oceanside, authorities said.
According to the Oceanside Police Department, officers responded at around 6:55 p.m. to a report of a gunshot victim and located the man in front of Oceanside High School, where he had driven after being shot. He sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
During the initial investigation, the victim told officers the shooting may have occurred near the beach. Using city surveillance cameras, officers conducted a coordinated search and identified a possible crime scene near the intersection of Neptune Way and Cleveland Street. One spent 9mm shell casing was recovered at the location.
Police said the casing was consistent with the caliber and brand of ammunition found inside the victim’s vehicle. A Glock 17 handgun and several types of ammunition were also located inside the vehicle.
After being stabilized, the victim provided an updated statement to investigators. The incident remains under investigation.
