Man fatally struck by vehicle in Carlsbad, police investigating

By SDCN Editor

Carlsbad, CA—The Carlsbad Police Department is investigating the death of a man who was fatally struck by a vehicle early Friday morning.

The incident occurred after an altercation was reported in the 2300 block of Rue Des Chateaux around 3:26 a.m., authorities said.

According to police, the caller initially reported a dispute but later informed dispatch that one of the individuals involved was struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found a man injured near the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts by officers and the Oceanside Fire Department, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect’s vehicle was spotted leaving the scene, prompting officers to conduct a traffic stop once sufficient units arrived. The vehicle exited at Poinsettia Lane and eventually stopped in the 700 block of Raintree Drive, where the driver and all occupants were detained.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Robert Owens of Escondido, has been booked at the Vista Detention Facility on charges of murder. The incident is being treated as a homicide and remains under investigation.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the victim’s next of kin.

The Carlsbad Police Department urges anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Jordan Walker at (442) 339-5674 or Jordan.walker@carlsbadca.gov.
