Vista, CA–Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 41-year-old man Thursday night in connection with two violent assaults that left one victim seriously injured, authorities said.
Deputies identified the suspect as Jesse Guzman, who was taken into custody without incident near the 700 block of Shadowridge Drive following an extensive search of the area.
The first assault was reported at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Watson Way. Deputies responding to the scene found a victim suffering from several lacerations. The victim declined medical treatment, and deputies were unable to locate a suspect at that time.
Several hours later, at about 11:15 p.m., deputies responded to a separate report of a stabbing in the 600 block of Sycamore Avenue. When deputies arrived on scene, they located a second victim with multiple lacerations to the head, arms, and hands. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive despite sustaining serious injuries.
During the investigation into the second incident, deputies recovered a hatchet believed to have been used in the assault, sheriff’s officials said.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
