Oceanside, CA–The Oceanside Fire Department responded Monday evening to a residential structure fire that began in the garage of a single-family home, filling the residence with heavy smoke.
Fire crews arrived on scene and advanced hose lines into the home while conducting a search. Firefighters located one adult occupant in a rear bedroom and safely removed the individual from the residence. The person was evaluated at the scene and declined further medical treatment or transport, fire officials said.
The fire was quickly brought under control and was contained to the garage, preventing it from spreading into the home’s living areas. Crews also conducted ventilation operations to clear smoke from the residence.
Five adult residents were displaced by the fire, and the American Red Cross was requested to provide assistance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Oceanside Fire Department reminded residents to ensure working smoke alarms are installed throughout their homes and to maintain a practiced home escape plan.
