Bonsall, CA–The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office lifted all evacuation orders and warnings for the Lilac Fire on Tuesday evening, citing significant progress in containment efforts by firefighters.
The fire, driven by gusty Santa Ana winds, ignited early Tuesday around 12:30 a.m. near Old Highway 395 and West Lilac Road in Bonsall, according to the North County Fire Protection District.
Evacuation orders were initially issued for 86 residents.
Two structures sustained damage, but no injuries have been reported. Fire officials announced that the blaze has burned 85 acres and is now 50% contained.
Old Highway 395 remains closed between Dulin Road near the Rancho Monserate Country Club and West Lilac Road until further notice. Bonsall Elementary School will also remain inaccessible except for residents with proper identification.
Authorities urge residents to exercise caution while driving, as firefighting crews will continue working in the area to address hazards and reinforce containment lines. Residents may notice dust, noise, and lingering smoke throughout the day and night. Fire officials assure the public that there is no immediate threat, even if smoke is visible from active fire zones.
