Escondido, CA–The Escondido Police Department is set to launch a Citizens Academy for residents and business owners this October.
The program, designed to provide an immersive, hands-on experience, is open to Escondido residents aged 18 and older who are keenly interested in learning about the police department’s role in the community.
The four-week program will include 12 two-hour sessions held at the Escondido Police Department every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. throughout October.
“This program is ambitious and unique,” said Police Chief Ed Varso. “We have a fantastic relationship with the community, and our goal in offering this Citizens Academy is to strengthen those bonds even more while addressing any gaps that exist between the public’s perception of what we do, how we do it, and why we do it.”
The program, directed by Lieutenant Damian Jackson, aims to enhance the community’s understanding of police work and its impact on safety and quality of life. Those interested in participating or seeking more information are encouraged to contact Lieutenant Jackson at citizen.academy@escondido.gov or call (760) 839-4711.
The deadline to apply is August 30.
