Escondido, CA–Escondido police on Saturday arrested a 44-year-old Escondido man on suspicion of felony hit-and-run in the death of an 11-year-old boy on Wednesday on East Washington Avenue.

According to the Escondido Police Department, Hector Balderas Amador was booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Police also recovered the vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Aiden Antonio Torres De Paz was struck by a vehicle in the roadway in front of his home after stepping into the street to retrieve a soccer ball. The driver fled the scene, Escondido Police stated in a news release.

Aiden was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, where he died from his injuries.

“We are grateful and appreciative for the trust and partnership our police department shares with the community, which aided in the identification and arrest of the driver in this tragic incident,” Chief of Police Ken Plunkett said in a statement.
