Escondido, CA–Authorities on Tuesday night arrested a 28 year-old Escondido man on suspicion of hit and run following the death of a pedestrian on May 29, the Escondido Police Department reports.
Jose Christian Sanchez Linares, age 28, was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a charge of felony hit and run. A second motorist who struck the victim as he lay in the roadway was identified and contacted. Based on his statement, evidence at the scene and video evidence, he was unaware that he had struck the victim. He faces no charges.
The victim has been identified as Freddie Olmeda, age 31, of Escondido. Olmeda was illegally crossing 9th Avenue just east of Redwood Street when the crash occurred.
