Boy, 11, dies after hit-and-run in Escondido

Escondido, CA–The 11-year-old boy who was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Wednesday in Escondido died of his injuries in the hospital, authorities confirmed.

The boy sustained critical injuries after being struck at 5 p.m. in the 400 block of East Washington Avenue. The driver did not remain on scene, and investigators are working to identify the individual, the Escondido Police Department stated in a news release.

The child was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and are asking anyone with information that leads to the driver’s identification to call Officer Smyth at (760) 839-4423.
