CARLSBAD–A five year-old female nearly drowned in a hotel pool Thursday afternoon, Carlsbad police says.

Carlsbad Police Department received a 911 call regarding a CPR in progress at Cape Rey Carlsbad hotel. The child had been found unresponsive underwater at the bottom of the hotel pool and was removed from the pool by a family friend. Two hotel employees evaluated the child and found that she was not breathing and did not have a pulse. The employees initiated CPR and were able to revive her.

Police officers and fire personnel arrived and found the child semi-conscious and crying. Medics treated the child and transported her to Children’s Hospital for further medical treatment.
