MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR–Marine Corps Air Station Miramar will host 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing’s Readiness Exercise, which is scheduled to begin Saturday.

During the 10 a.m. readiness exercise, residents around Del Mar, University City, and Carmel Valley may experience a high volume of military air traffic and as well as atypical flight patterns as the aircraft proceed to training ranges above the Pacific Ocean. 3rd MAW will conduct the exercise, lasting four to six hours, and afterward, MCAS Miramar will resume normal flight operations and regular hours.

The public is reminded that the Federal Aviation Administration has designated the airspace over San Diego and north to Encinitas as Class ‘B’.

Drones or other hobbyist aircraft cannot be flown in Class ‘B’ airspace without authorization from the air traffic controllers. Any operators who illegally fly drones may be subject to fines and other penalties by appropriate authorities.
