Vista, CA–A man on a motorized scooter was struck by an oncoming vehicle at an intersection early Tuesday morning in Vista, San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies said.

Sheriff’s deputies and Vista Fire Department personnel responded to a 3:30 a.m. report of a traffic collision involving a Toyota Prius and a pedestrian at the intersection of East California and North Santa Fe Avenue. 

According to investigators, the Prius was traveling on East California through the intersection of North Santa Fe on a green light when it struck a pedestrian on a motorized scooter in the middle of the intersection. The victim was transported to Palomar Hospital by paramedics with serious injuries. The driver did not suffer any injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.  

Authorities believed neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision.

The Vista Traffic Division is investigating the case.
