Ramona, CA–The Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that seriously injured a man at his home on Thursday in Ramona, authorities said. 

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report at about 7 p.m. of a shooting in the 1800 block of La Brea Street.  

When deputies arrived at the home they found a 59-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to his upper torso near the sideyard of the home. Deputies performed life-saving measures on the man until fire department paramedics arrived at the scene. He was transported to a local area hospital for further treatment. According to the medical staff at the hospital, the victim is not likely to survive, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Chris Steffen said in a news release.

The victim’s name is known but is being withheld at this time for investigative reasons.

The circumstances and motivations of the shooting are still under investigation.
