Encinitas, CA–The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity of an armed man fatally shot by two Sheriff’s deputies Friday in Encinitas.

Eric Scott Anderson, 40, of San Diego died from a gunshot wound and the manner of death was a homicide, the Medical Examiner reports.

Sheriff’s deputies responded, just after 8 a.m., to the 1500 block of Eolus Avenue in Encinitas for a suspicious person in a vacant lot. Two deputies contacted the man. During the contact, the man produced a handgun resulting in two deputies discharging their firearms striking the man. 

The deputies immediately provided lifesaving efforts to the man until relieved by fire personnel. The man was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.      

A handgun was located at the scene where the man was shot. No deputies were injured.
