Vista, CA–A man is dead following a solo vehicle crash into a tree Saturday evening in Vista, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision occurred shortly after 6 p.m. near the intersection of North Santa Fe Avenue and North Paseo Marguerita. Preliminary findings from sheriff’s investigators suggest the 30-year-old driver failed to negotiate a right-hand turn in his sedan, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway and strike a tree.
After the impact, the driver reportedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Just over an hour later, deputies were called to the 200 block of Apollo Drive in response to reports of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, they confirmed the individual was the driver involved in the earlier crash. Despite efforts to provide aid, he succumbed to his injuries.
Sheriff’s traffic investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. At this time, it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
