OCEANSIDE–An Oceanside man was arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal fistfight with another man in the front yard of an Oceanside residence, the Oceanside Police Department said.
Police officers arrested 36-year-old Joel Cardona, of Oceanside. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on murder charges. The victim was identified as 37-year-old Nestor Jurado The suspect and victim are related.
Shortly after 7:15 a.m., Oceanside police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Arthur Avenue in regards to a fight between two adult males in the front yard of the residence.
Responding officers arrived on scene and discovered one of the men was not breathing so officers began CPR on him. Officers took the other man into custody. Officers continued CPR on the victim until the paramedics arrived who then took over life saving measures. Medics worked on the victim for several minutes but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. It appears he died as a result of the injuries he sustained during the fight.
