OCEANSIDE–An elderly driver involved in a three-vehicle collision Monday on State Route 76 in Oceanside has died, the Oceanside Police Department said.

Shortly before 4 p.m., police officers responded to calls of a serious injury traffic collision involving the vehicles at Old Grove. Upon arrival, officers located one of the involved drivers still sitting in their vehicle. At that time, the 67-year-old male was conscious and speaking with officers. The male was transported to the hospital where his health drastically changed. Despite life saving measures, the male was later declared deceased.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was traveling westbound on SR 76 approaching the intersection of Old Grove where traffic was stopped for the signal light. The vehicle the deceased was driving rear ended a vehicle in front of him causing a chain reaction into another vehicle. No other parties were injured as a result of the collision.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision. The incident is under investigation.

The driver’s name is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call Accident Investigator Bussey at (760)435-4431.
