SAN DIEGO–A San Diego man in his 80s with underlying medical conditions, has died from complications of COVID-19, the County Health and Human Services Agency said Saturday.

Combined with yesterday’s announcement of a local man in his 20s who died in Riverside County, this brings the total COVID-19 deaths in San Diego County to seven.

“Just these two deaths reflect the sober reality that we are facing, that COVID-19 can affect individuals of all ages,” said Nick Yphantides, County chief medical officer.

County health officials also reported an additional 71 COVID-19 cases in San Diego County, bringing the total to 488.

Of San Diego County’s cases, 280 (57.4%) were men and 206 (42.2%) were women. Of the known cases, 96 (19.7%) have required hospitalization, 42 (8.6%) had to be placed in intensive care and seven (1.4%) have died.
