SAN DIEGO–The City of San Diego Environmental Services Department is hosting a free automotive waste recycling event on October 27 at Southwest High School in the South Bay.
The 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. event, located at the school’s south parking lot, 1685 Hollister Street in San Diego, is free to City of San Diego residents only.
The following automotive waste materials will be accepted: used motor oil, oil filters, auto batteries and antifreeze. Residents living within the San Diego city limits can also bring automotive and household batteries as well as compact fluorescent light bulbs, lamps and tubes. The maximum amount of waste material accepted is 10 gallons and up to 100 pounds per vehicle. Business waste will not be accepted and waste materials from residents living outside the City of San Diego limits will not be accepted.
“This event makes it easy for San Diego residents to dispose of their oil, oil filters, antifreeze, automotive and home use batteries and lamps/bulbs,” said Environmental Services Department Household Hazardous Waste Program Manager Joy Newman. “It’s all about keeping our streets and waterways clean and protecting the environment.”
This collection event is funded by the City’s ESD, Public Utilities Department, Transportation and Storm Water Department and a grant from CalRecycle. To learn how to safely dispose of other hazardous items, visit the City’s HHW webpage
