San Diego, CA–The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Saturday announced the arrest of the suspect responsible for the freeway shooting death of a 27-year-old motorist earlier this month.
The CHP, in collaboration with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, executed a search warrant Saturday morning at an address in La Mesa where Thomas Evans III, 47, was taken into custody at his home. Evans is believed to be responsible for Saundralina Williams’ death and was arrested on a charge of murder. During the arrest, investigators recovered what they believe to be the weapon used in the shooting.
The arrest follows the March 5 incident on State Route-94. Williams was driving her vehicle westbound, approaching Kenwood Drive when a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting occurred. One of the bullets struck Williams, resulting in fatal injuries.
“The CHP Border Division’s Special Investigations Unit has been working around the clock to find the person responsible for this senseless crime,” said CHP Chief Scott Parker. “We know the arrest will not bring Ms. Williams back, but we hope that the arrest of the man suspected of her murder will give her family some closure. The CHP is dedicated to ensuring those who commit crimes of violence on our highways will be caught and brought to justice.”
