San Diego, CA–The U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a small vessel carrying 13 people suspected of attempting to illegally enter the United States early Thursday morning off the coast of Point Loma.
Officials said the Coast Guard Cutter Forrest Rednour (WPC-1129) intercepted a 25-foot cuddy cabin boat about 23 miles west of Point Loma around 5:45 a.m.
The cutter’s boarding team found 10 adults and three minors aboard the vessel. Authorities said the minors were traveling with their mother. Of those detained, one individual claimed Guatemalan nationality while the remaining 12 identified themselves as Mexican nationals.
The Coast Guard confiscated the vessel and transferred all 13 individuals to another agency within the Department of Homeland Security for processing.
