CARLSBAD–December can be a lonely time for the children of deployed parents who must spend the holidays without their father, mother or sometimes both parents.

To brighten up the season for these children, as well as the children of wounded warriors, the residents of La Costa Glen retirement community in Carlsbad recently sponsored a holiday toy drive.

According to resident Jean Davis, the drive was held in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Camp Pendleton. The residents filled eight large boxes of toys and donated more than $17,000 to the Pendleton Rotary Community Service Fund. The cash donations will be used to buy personalized “wished for” gifts for the children.
