ESCONDIDO–A female bicyclist was critically injured in collision involving a vehicle in downtown Escondido.

On Friday, at about 6:59 p.m., officers from the Escondido Police Department were dispatched to the area of Grand Ave. and Broadway regarding a serious injury collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Upon arrival,  lawyers for truck accidents found an unconscious female lying in the eastbound lanes of Grand Ave. east of Broadway. The female sustained significant, life-threatening injuries and Escondido Fire transported her to Palomar Hospital for treatment.

The identity of the female is unknown at this time.

According to several witnesses and physical evidence at the scene, it appears the bicyclist was riding northbound on Broadway and was hit by a car heading eastbound on Grand Ave. The car never stopped and fled the scene.

The traffic investigation is ongoing.
