CHULA VISTA–Chula Vista police are investigating the suspicious shooting of a man who later died from his injuries at a local hospital in Chula Vista early Friday morning.
Chula Vista Police Department officers responded to Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista at about 12:45 a.m. for a report of a male with a gunshot wound.
Hospital staff attempted life saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at 1:06 a.m. The person who drove the man to the hospital left shortly after dropping him off.
Chula Vista Police Department’s Crimes of Violence Unit began investigating the circumstances of the man’s death. Early Friday afternoon, the investigation led Chula Vista detectives to a residence in the 400 block of 7th Street in Imperial Beach. The detectives located what is believed to be the scene of the shooting.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Homicide Unit is investigating the case.
