CARLSBAD–Authorities arrested an Arizona man and charged him with residential burglary of a home in Carlsbad, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

Officers identified the suspect as 45-year-old Michael Shawn Wade. They arrested Wade for residential burglary and delaying and obstructing an officer. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

On August 7, at 6:48 a.m., Carlsbad police officers responded to the 5300 block of El Arbol Drive for a report of an individual inside a residence. The homeowner confirmed no one was 

On arrival, officers observed a male inside the residence. The man fled into a bedroom upon seeing the officer. Officers made verbal contact with the suspect through the closed door. After several hours of unsuccessful negotiations with the man, he refused to exit the room.

Carlsbad SWAT officers were called to the scene. Residents in the immediate area were asked to evacuate or shelter in place. The man was eventually arrested without incident.

There were no injuries reported. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
