Lakeside, CA–A 15-year-old female juvenile has been rearrested on new charges stemming from the stabbing of an African-American teen girl in Lakeside last weekend, authorities said.

Based on new information and witness statements in the ongoing investigation, Sheriff’s detectives found the juvenile suspect had a larger role in the attack than initially believed. On April 22, an arrest warrant was issued for her arrest. The 15-year-old turned herself in without incident to the custody of deputies at the Lakeside Sheriff’s Substation with the assistance of the Fugitive Task Force. She was booked into Juvenile Hall on attempted murder and hate crime charges.

The incident happened on April 16 just after 11 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 12000 block of Mapleview Street.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a 16-year-old African American girl who had been stabbed twice in the back. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.

During the course of the deputies’ investigation, they determined the 16-year-old male suspect and a group of teenagers approached the victim and her family about an assault that happened earlier in the day and began yelling racial slurs at them. An altercation ensued and that’s when the suspect stabbed the teen.

The male juvenile who stabbed the victim was arrested on April 18.

It is the policy of the Sheriff’s Department not to release identifying information about minor suspects.
