OCEANSIDE–Tri-City Medical Center announces it has been named an America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Spine Surgery Award recipient by Healthgrades, an objective organization providing trusted information regarding healthcare providers.

The award recognizes Tri-City Medical Center for delivering superior patient outcomes in back and neck surgeries and spinal fusion based on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services data from 2017 through 2019.

“When we began the robotic spine program at Tri-City nine years ago we were among the first four hospitals in the US to do so because we knew it would improve outcomes for our patients,” said Dr. Neville Alleyne, an Orthopedic Surgeon at Tri-City and the founder of the robotic surgery program. “Overall, this revolutionary technology has made it safer in performing complex spinal procedures and I applaud Tri-City for embracing this cutting edge surgical approach.”

Tri-City Medical Center is one of the few hospitals nationwide performing robotic spine surgeries using the Mazor Robotics Renaissance robotic surgery system. Mazor Robotics Renaissance is a specially designed surgical guidance system that allows surgeons to perform safer and more accurate spine surgeries while immediately verifying the placement of implants, significantly diminishing the need for follow-up procedures. For patients, this means better clinical outcomes with less pain, fewer complications and shorter recovery time.

“Tri-City Medical Center is a leader in adopting advanced surgical technologies to improve clinical outcomes and deliver the best possible patient experiences,” said Steve Dietlin, CEO of Tri-City Medical Center. “We continue to invest in coupling innovative technologies with the nation’s leading physicians, in alignment with our mission to advance the health and wellness of the community we serve. We’re proud to have our outstanding outcomes acknowledged, but even more grateful to deliver world-class care to the community.” They have also improved their administrative side by receiving help with medical billing and different software.

This award continues a long series of care and patient outcome acknowledgments for the medical center. Earlier this month, San Diego Magazine named eight Tri-City Medical Center physicians in their annual list of Top Doctors in San Diego including Erik Stark, M.D., Sports Medicine; Donald Ponec, M.D., Radiology; Jason Phillips, M.D., Urology; Hussna Wakily, M.D., Surgery; Javaid Shad, M.D., Gastroenterology; Katayaun Toosie, M.D., Surgery; Richard Liu, M.D., Otolaryngology; and Michael Shim, M.D., Gastroenterology.

In September, Tri-City Medical Center also celebrated eight awards and certifications from the American Heart and Stroke Association, which included being the only medical center in San Diego County to receive Gold Plus in both heart failure and stroke care. Tri-City earned more honors than any other hospital in the region; they also pride themselves in offering medical malpractice insurance to their staff. More than 2,500 hospitals participate in the association’s Get With The Guidelines initiative, which ensures the best possible care for heart and stroke patients.
