Since 2018, the event has been led by the City of Chula Vista and is presented by the Port of San Diego Experiences.
“South Bay Earth Day is a vital reminder of our collective responsibility in protecting our planet. I’m proud to see so many local organizations and residents in Chula Vista leading the charge in environmental stewardship,” said Chula Vista Mayor John McCann.
With a population nearing 280,000, Chula Vista continues to be a regional leader in sustainability. The city’s environmental efforts date back to 1993 with the launch of its citywide recycling program. Over the years, Chula Vista has remained at the forefront—joining the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 1997, adopting its first Climate Action Plan in 2000, and later implementing both an Operations Sustainability Plan and a Zero Waste Plan. These initiatives reflect the city’s commitment to the “triple bottom line” of People, Planet, and Prosperity—aiming to build a greener, more sustainable local economy and community.
South Bay Earth Day will occur from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Port of San Diego’s Bayfront Park, located at 980 Marina Way in Chula Vista.
