OnStage Playhouse celebrates 40th season with new lineup

By Gina Yarbrough

Chula Vista, CA–OnStage Playhouse is set to mark its 40th theatrical season with a lineup that promises to charm audiences.

Following a successful giving campaign that garnered overwhelming support from the San Diego County community, OnStage Playhouse is geared up to captivate theater enthusiasts with a diverse array of compelling stories.

The milestone season will feature two San Diego premieres and two world premieres, showcasing the very best in contemporary theater. This exciting lineup reflects OnStage Playhouse’s commitment to bringing fresh, innovative productions to its stage, enriching the cultural landscape of the South Bay.

Headlining the season are two highly anticipated San Diego premieres: “The Harvest” by Samuel D. Hunter (running March 22—April 14) and “Gloria” by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (running July 12—August 4). These critically acclaimed plays have garnered widespread acclaim for their thought-provoking narratives, rich character development, and powerful themes.

In addition to these esteemed productions, OSP is proud to present two world premieres, further solidifying its commitment to fostering local voices in the theater community: “Devil in a Box” (running May 17 to June 9) by Tori Rice and “Masa” by Salomón Maya (October 4 to 27).

“We are thrilled to celebrate our 40th season with such an exciting lineup of productions,” said James P. Darvas, Executive Artistic Director of OSP. “Thanks to our generous donors and theatergoers supporting our work in 2023, we are able to continue our mission to bring live theater to South Bay San Diego. We have chosen the lineup carefully to represent the community in which we live, promising theater that will forever spark conversation.”

The 40th theatrical season promises to be a landmark moment for OSP, continuing a tradition of excellence in producing thought-provoking and socially relevant theater. Audiences can expect to be challenged, entertained, and inspired by the dynamic lineup of productions scheduled throughout the season.

For the first time, patrons can purchase a special ticket package allowing them to enjoy all four shows at a discounted rate. For more information, including performance dates, and special surround events, and to purchase tickets, visit onstageplayhouse.org.
