LOS ANGELES–Further unveiling his highly anticipated eighth studio album On Earth, and in Heaven (February 12), Lucky Music/EMPIRE’s Robin Thicke returns with his intoxicating new track, “Take Me Higher.”
Penned by Thicke with longtime collaborator and producer Pharrell Williams alongside Chris Payton, the song is over eight years in the making. Driven by rowdy horns – a nod to Thicke’s family line of renowned jazz trumpet players – percussive claps and his fluttering high register, the compelling new tune represents the next link in a longstanding and fruitful creative chain with Pharrell. “Take Me Higher” also continues Thicke’s career-long string of collaborations with ESPN, debuting earlier this week as an extension of their new campaign heading into ABC Saturday Primetime, “It’s NBA on ESPN Time.” Scoring and emphasizing key player matchups for marquee NBA on ABC games, the debut piece of the series showcases one of the most renowned rivalries in sports – Lakers vs Celtics – by highlighting historic moments of the legendary rivalry while also focusing on the current stars of each team (LeBron James and Jayson Tatum). The network shares, “‘Take Me Higher’ helps establish an inviting and uplifting tone” for fans nationwide.
Last week, Thicke previewed On Earth, and in Heaven by dropping “Beautiful,” “another sensational song” (ABC News Radio) that’s “reminiscent of a classic Motown doo-wop ballad” (Rated R&B).
Thicke, a five-time Grammy Award nominee, actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, continually elevates the genre of R&B. After kicking off his career behind-the-scenes as a songwriter for the likes of Christina Aguilera and P!nk, he skyrocketed into the stratosphere with a string of successful solo albums, logging four consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard 200, picking up platinum plaques, and selling out shows around the world. Thicke then made history with 2013’s “Blurred Lines,” which bowed at number 1 on the 200 and delivered the RIAA-diamond-certified title single “Blurred Lines” (feat. T.I. and Pharrell). The smash hit spent 12 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Thicke the first artist since 2012 to simultaneously occupy the spot on that chart and on the Billboard 200.
Thicke has collaborated with other artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Nas, Joe Perry, Pitbull, and others. Expanding his presence, Thicke joined the panel of the FOX hit show “The Masked Singer,” which is heading into a fifth season for 2021.
