Director Christopher Nolan returns to the big screen with a new epic inspired by “The Odyssey,” the ancient Greek poem traditionally attributed to Homer.
The first trailer for “The Odyssey” was recently released, offering audiences an early look at the highly anticipated mythic action film. Based on the preview, fans of Nolan’s signature visual style and ambitious storytelling can expect a sweeping, large-scale production.
The film was shot across multiple global locations using newly developed IMAX film technology. The adaptation brings Homer’s foundational saga to theaters with a focus on King Odysseus of Ithaca, who spends 10 years wandering in his attempt to return home following the Trojan War. Much of the story unfolds on and around the Aegean Sea.
The film features an ensemble cast led by Matt Damon, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o. Zendaya and Charlize Theron also star.
“The Odyssey” is produced by Emma Thomas and Nolan under their Syncopy banner. Nolan both wrote and directed the film, with Thomas Hayslip serving as executive producer.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release on July 17, 2026.
