San Diego, CA–The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will host its third annual EXPO Design Market on June 6 and 7 in partnership with Mortis Studio and Kiku Room, bringing together artists, designers, musicians and creatives from across Southern California.
Organizers said the event is intended to celebrate publishing, design, music and community while fostering collaboration and dialogue during a period when arts funding and cultural spaces face growing uncertainty.
The two-day event will feature local vendors, curated DJ performances and artist talks centered on creativity, culture and design.
Museum officials said EXPO aligns with MCASD’s mission to inspire inclusive thinking through contemporary art and to strengthen connections among artists, designers and cultural workers.
Guests attending the event will receive 50 percent off museum gallery admission during the event, including access to the exhibitions “Giants” and “Hometown Heroes.”
An EXPO pre-party featuring Los Angeles-based artist, producer and media composer Geller is scheduled for June 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Organizers described Geller’s work as blending electronic sounds with organic textures. Tickets for the pre-party are available online through MCASD.
The event will also include EXPO Lightrip, a series of daytime DJ sets presented by Kiku Room and Ohmega HiFi. Featured performers include Dirty Dave from noon to 6 p.m. June 6 and FreshRo from noon to 4 p.m. June 7.
EXPO Lab, a series of talks and interactive programs, will take place throughout the weekend. Scheduled speakers and presenters on June 6 include San Diego furniture and lighting designer Nick Pourfard, graphic designer Erik Carter and Justin Atallian, a senior design manager at Nike.
Programs on June 7 will feature cross-border designer Itzel Islas, filmmaker Sergio Hernandez and a zine workshop presented by Mortis Studio and Scanners Archive.
Following each evening of the market, attendees ages 21 and older may attend a free after-party at Kiku Room, with entry based on venue capacity. DJs scheduled to perform include Max Colletto, Enzo Muro and FreshRo.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 6 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 7 at the museum, located at 700 Prospect St. in La Jolla.
