San Diego, CA–The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will host its biennial Art Auction on March 6 at its La Jolla location, bringing together collectors, artists and patrons for an evening celebrating contemporary art in support of the museum’s mission.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres as guests place bids in the silent auction. The evening’s centerpiece, a live auction led by an auctioneer from Christie’s Auction House, is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. Museum curators will be available throughout the night to consult with attendees and offer guidance on building and expanding art collections.
The live and silent auctions will feature works by a diverse roster of artists, including Amy Adler, John Baldessari, Math Bass, Niki de Saint Phalle, Karla Diaz, Matt Digiacomo, Max Frintrop, Carlos Garaicoa, Luis González Palma, Lavaughan Jenkins, Ed Ruscha, Perry Vásquez and Cecilia Vicuña.
Approximately 60 works will be offered for bidding, ranging from photographs and sculptures to paintings, all selected by Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego curators.
“What is special about the auction for me is that it is a reflection of the incredible relationships that the museum has fostered with a wide-reaching network of artists, collectors and galleries,” said Amy Crum, associate curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. “As a curator, the auction offers an exciting opportunity to showcase local talent and emerging artists alongside late-career established artists in collective support of the museum’s mission.”
Ahead of the auction, all featured artworks will be on view in the museum’s galleries through March 8. Guests who purchase Gold Circle tickets will be eligible to attend curatorial tours by appointment to preview the works. Gold Circle attendees will also receive exclusive access to a special-edition Art Auction 2026 paddle featuring artwork by Karla Diaz.
