Pedestrian struck and killed in vehicle collision

By Gina Yarbrough

Escondido, CA–A 55-year-old man lost his life in a pedestrian accident early Wednesday morning on Via Rancho Parkway, near the Westfield North County Mall entrance, the Escondido Police Department confirmed.

Officers responded to the scene at 5:29 a.m. after receiving calls about the accident. Upon arrival, they found bystanders attempting CPR. Officers took over life-saving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding his identity until his family is notified.

Initial reports suggest the man was crossing Via Rancho Parkway against a red light when he was struck by a vehicle heading west. The driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with investigators. Police have confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the accident.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Officer Jake Houchin at (760) 839-4904.
