San Diego, CA–The Federal Aviation Administration announced the Biden Administration has awarded San Diego International Airport $12.1 million in discretionary grant funds as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – Airport Terminal Program.
The grant will be used to fund Phase 1B construction of the New Terminal 1 which includes the installation of two passenger boarding bridges, pilings, foundation concrete, flooring, roofing, and structural steel.
“We thank the FAA and truly appreciate the support of U.S. Senator Alex Padilla and Congressman Scott Peters as well as our entire congressional delegation in making these funds available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” said Kimberly Becker, President and CEO, of San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. “The $12.1 million from the Airport Terminal Program will fund an essential portion of the New T1 which is the largest construction project in this airport’s history.”
Becker says passenger boarding bridges will be the gateway for millions of visitors to the new terminal and ultimately to the vibrant binational region.
This is the third Airport Terminal Program grant and marks $87.1 million in discretionary funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law awarded to the airport. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law invests in the nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness.
For four years, funding has been awarded to eligible airport projects through a five-year competitive grant cycle. In this latest round, grants were provided to 125 airports nationwide.
