San Diego, CA–Belmont Park has been awarded a prestigious Poppy Award for Best Brand Advertising Campaign (under $1 million) in recognition of its “100 Days of Belmont” campaign celebrating the park’s 100th anniversary.
Presented during Visit California Outlook Forum on March 11 at the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, the Poppy Awards honor excellence in tourism marketing and destination stewardship across the state. Belmont Park’s centennial campaign was selected among more than 170 submissions from destinations and attractions throughout California.
The “100 Days of Belmont” campaign celebrated a century of seaside fun with a series of creative promotions and community-driven events running from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Highlights included $1 ride and dining specials, a free car giveaway, 50 lifetime pass giveaways, and a press event that led to July 1 being officially declared National Belmont Park Day by the City of San Diego.
Supported by an integrated marketing strategy across public relations, social media, email, radio, streaming platforms, billboards, and digital advertising, the campaign successfully re-engaged longtime fans while introducing new visitors to the historic Mission Beach attraction.
The campaign also delivered strong results, including increased park revenue, a 10.7% rise in ridership during the summer months, and more than 3.9 billion media impressions generated through earned press coverage.
“This recognition is incredibly meaningful as we celebrate Belmont Park’s 100-year legacy,” said Sarah Abelsohn, Marketing Director at Belmont Park. “The ‘100 Days of Belmont’ campaign was designed to honor the park’s history while creating exciting new experiences for our guests and the San Diego community. We’re proud to see the campaign recognized alongside some of the best tourism marketing efforts across California.”
Visit California’s biennial Poppy Awards recognize destinations and attractions across the state for innovation and excellence in tourism marketing. Winners were selected by a panel of industry marketing experts during the organization’s annual Outlook Forum, attended by more than 800 travel and tourism leaders.
